DOUG EITELMAN

VP- CIVIL ENGINEERING

Profile

Mr. Eitelman began working as a civil engineer after graduation from college in 2003. As an Engineer for VanDemark & Lynch, he has worked on projects for industrial, institutional, commercial, and private clients, assessing site requirements and preparing plans for site improvements. Mr. Eitelman has significant experience in the design of storm drainage, stormwater quality and quantity management, erosion and sediment control, site layout, grading, streets, parking, water and various other utilities.

As a VP Mr. Eitelman leads a team of engineers and technicians that prepare site assessments, site plans and engineering reports and works closely with review agencies to meet municipal, county, State, and Federal design requirements. Projects include institutional, residential, industrial and commercial development. His experience includes review and analysis of existing properties, collection of field data, and the use of computer assisted models to develop improvement plans individually focused on each site.

  • Attended the University of Delaware part-time in the late 80’s and early 90’s

  • Almost 40 years of surveying, construction, and drafting experience
  • Started at V&L in 1984 as a rodman

  • Was trained in AutoCAD and brought into the office in 1988
  • Left V&L in 1992 – worked in landscaping and construction for 8+ years

  • Returned to V&L in 2001 as a CAD Technician and Field Technician

  • Completed the Certified Survey Technician Program Level IV in 2015
  • Passed NCEES Fundamentals of Surveying Exam in 2016

  • Completed 4-year Survey Internship in 2020

  • Passed NCEES Principles and Practices Exam in 2020

  • Passed Delaware Drainage and Jurisprudence Exam in 2021

  • Acquired Delaware Professional Surveyor’s License in 2021

  • Promoted to Director of Survey and Mapping at V&L in 2022

MARK RUSSO

SENIOR LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

  • Born and raised in Western Pennsylvania, graduated from Bishop McCort HS
  • Graduated from the Pennsylvania State University in 1988 with a BS in Landscape Architecture
  • Licensed Professional Landscape Architect in Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland
  • Over 35-years of Landscape Architecture and Civil Engineering experience
  • Early career spent in the Washington DC Metropolitan area
  • Followed the girl and moved to the First State in 1996
  • Joined V&L in 2010 as a Senior Landscape Architect and Project Manager
  • Currently specializes in Landscape Design and Land Development projects
  • Attended Landscape Design Courses at Longwood Gardens
  • Member of the Delaware Section of the ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architecture)
  • Member of CIRC (Commercial-Industrial Realty Council)
  • • Currently lives in Wilmington, DE with his wife Lisa (the girl he followed)
  • Has one son, Ryan, who followed in his footsteps as a Penn State Student, but is following his mother’s career path. That’s still a win - win!

ALAN STEINLE

VP- STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING

Profile

  • Born and raised in Wilmington, DE and graduated from PS DuPont HS
  • Graduated University of Delaware with BS Civil Engineering and Commission as a 2nd Lt in US Army Corps of Engineers, 1970.
  • Active duty in US Army Corps of Engineers from 1971 – 1973 stationed in Ft Belvoir, VA and Ft Benning Ga.
  • After returning from active duty, worked as a project engineer for a General Contractor and then became the Port Engineer at the Port of Wilmington, DE from 1973 to 1982.
  • Served as a Captain and Commander of the 249th Engineer Detachment in the Delaware Army National Guard, part-time in the late 80’s and early 90’s
  • Worked for a large Steel Fabrication and Erection Company in Wilmington, overseeing the erection of the Port of Wilmington’s first container crane and the construction of the Hercules Building in Wilmington, Delaware
  • In 1982 he became a Partner and Sr Structural Engineer for a local geotechnical engineering company
  • In the mid 1980’s he was the American Consulting Engineers Council’s representative that published the CAD LAYER GUIDELINES along with the American Association of Architects (AIA), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the International Facility Management Association
  • In 1988 he was named the Outstanding Young Principal by the Consulting Engineers Council of Delaware
  • In 1993 he established Steinle Construction Engineers, Inc. performing Structural and MEP Engineering Services and in 2011 SCE was acquired by VanDemark & Lynch, Inc. as the Steinle Construction Engineers Division preparing structural designs and specifications for renovation, new construction, repairs and improvements for commercial, institutional, residential, industrial and governmental clients and performing Building Code Review and Code Enforcement Services
  • Alan was presented the prestigious James M. Delahay Award by the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA) in 2013
  • Served as a member of the International Residential Code (IRC) Development Committee from 2006 through 2015
  • In 2019 Alan was named the 2019 Engineer of the Year by the Delaware Engineering Society at its annual Engineers Week Banquet
  • Alan continues to practice as a consulting structural engineer with VanDemark & Lynch, Inc. and is licensed as a professional engineer in 5 states
  • Alan has one daughter and son-in-law along with 3 grandchildren living in South Carolina
