To meet the expanding needs of the aging community in Delaware, the Methodist Country House has expanded numerous times since 1987 and VanDemark & Lynch has always been selected to provide the required civil engineering and surveying services.
The current expansion, which is in the conceptual design stage, includes over 100,000 square feet of additional building, and will have significant impact on the existing site improvements, from parking to sewer and water services. Stormwater management will be one of the most important aspects of this project. The Methodist Country House is located in an important watershed near the City of Wilmington’s emergency water supply, Hoopes Reservoir. VanDemark & Lynch’s design will achieve a goal of maintaining the existing volume of stormwater runoff through the use of a number of different green technology best management practices (GTBMP’s). Our design will include rain gardens, bio-retention basins, green roofs, and if necessary, underground infiltration beds. We are also investigating the use of cisterns to hold water for fire protection and landscaping needs.
This site has numerous other site features which require innovative designs including: steep slopes, woodlands, wetlands, and deed restrictions. VanDemark & Lynch is helping ACTS create a campus which provides an invigorating atmosphere for the residents while minimizing the impact on the surrounding community.
